“G&D was a liquor store in a small narrow building when we bought it. We came in with lots of ideas and a willingness to work really hard to make things happen.

Originally we were next to the old Cadillac Hotel – which was next to the old Photo 1 building. Shortly after we took over the store from the previous owners, George & Dick (G&D), Oleson’s (our landlord) decided to tear the hotel and our building down and move us to the corner of Chapin and Mitchell streets. In 2020, we have made the move a few blocks north to our new location!

Having had some experience in the food business we decided to expand the business to include take out pizza. When we first started making pizza in 1977, we used to make one tray a day and ended up throwing half of it out! No one sold pizza by the slice at that time, and it took a little while to catch on. When an order came in after 6pm the cashier would call us at home and one of us would have to run down to make the pizza. Thankfully it didn’t take too long for things to catch on, and we were off and running with our new venture.

Once we got the pizza going we added sandwiches. Once those became popular, we added salads and kept adding items to build our menu as you see it today. We are known for our loyal following and have had our pizza taken all over the U.S. – even to Japan!
